Re: [Harp-L] Re: Harp-L Digest, Vol 105, Issue 47
Transcribing from C to Bb is relatively easy. Here are the notes on a keyboard:
C Db D Eb E F Gb G Ab A Bb B
C is two keyboard notes higher than Bb. That means every note in the
C song is two keyboard notes higher than the Bb song. Let's say the C
song had the note A. Look at the list of keyboard notes. Find A.
Then move left two notes, Ab then G. The note is now G in the Bb
song.
If moving to the left knocks you off the list, go to the far right of
the list. For example, if the C song has a Db, go left once to C and
then far right once to B. That is the Bb song note.

Steveland plays a lot of unusual keys and seems to like draw keys. (as did Leo Diamond, as does Richard Hayman). I believe that the original key may have BEEN C and as done by Dionne Warwick. I had the music in C but when I played it at the Buckeye harmonica fest, I transcribed it to Bb. You'd be surprised. This changes the slide movements and many blow notes become draw notes, and several pizzacatos fall into place. Not to mention the tongue plucking. Hope this helps.

Infinitely easier than me transcribing it !

Slowing it down helps make the embellishments easier to break down, although I don't know if I'll ever get that pizzicato thing figured out. Pretty fun, anyway, and maybe worth checking out.
