Hi guys,
In case you hadn't seen it out there, here's a little App suggestion. I just purchased the irehearse app from the App Store ( for my Mac but available both platforms) as I was looking for something decent to slow down a tune I was having trouble with. Relatively cheap (on sale $11.99 when I bought it last week), very easy to operate and does a decent job of slowing down passages without changing pitch. Incidentally, the tune was a George Smith chromatic tune in C, which is a key I decided I needed some blues licks in. Also, and here's where this ties into a recent thread, it's very easy to change pitch by semi-tones up or down. So, when I saw that Rob Paparozzi mentioned that Stevie's Alfie performance was in Bflat, and I found that the only arrangement I had was in C (in the Real Book 6th Ed), all I had to do was take the Eivets Rednow version (also in Bflat) which I've had for years and raise it two semi-tones to play along. Infinitely easier than me transcribing it down to the original key of the recording although I'll probably get there eventually. And I knocked the tempo down a bit (another feature) since my reading, even in C, is not that great. Slowing it down helps make the embellishments easier to break down, although I don't know if I'll ever get that pizzicato thing figured out. Pretty fun, anyway, and maybe worth checking out.
