I can not say enough good things about the Beach Boys 50th anniversary tour. Most should know that Brian Wilson sharing the stage with Mike Love has not happened in decades. I have been to maybe 20 Beach Boy shows over the years and it is about 5 front guys, 6 when John Stammos leaves his drum set for the front row guitar. Back is usually a drummer and keyboard. 7 to 8 musicians. The music is never like a studio version. Since Brian has been recording for many years after leaving Mike, he has the desire to put on a stage show with a studio quality sound. In fact the newest Beach Boys album drops June 5th. Another first with 5 original Beach Boys.
The group of original Beach boys up front, Brian, Mike, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks are joined by Jeffrey Foskett and musical Director, and pretty much lead guitar, Scott Totten. Brian on a baby grand and Bruce at his keyboard are backed by 2 more keyboards in the back row. One a double Decker.3 more guitars, 2 drum sets and now the harp content;
Back row musical director on 2 kinds of sax, a flute, a clarinet, also played some keyboard, Jews mouth harp, a harmonica and a bass harmonica - Paul Von Mertens from Chicago. What a talent! 15 musicians, 15 voices. A show worthy of studio quality.
Go see this if you can.
Dave
