All good points...Hip Hop is the 'now' AA musical choice amongst
youngsters. No one is filling in those ranks, the AA young look at the
Blues as minstrel shows old fogey music.
It was the combination of the old southerners who meshed this music, when
radio came along and records it was labled to be sold & thus we get race
records & white records.
The whites added the 4/4 time to replace the old 3/4 African beats. blues
notes from the blacks- medoly from the whites. A lot of cross
pollenization. Listen to an old tune by Daddy Stove Pipe "Stovepipe Blues"
that is a 'gray' tune...
As a southerner, I feel comfortable singing & playing this stuff as MY
heritage, of course having an accent & a propensity for BBQ & Fish Fry
helps.
