[Harp-L] Re: Hohner MS series harmonicas; Hohner CX-12

Hello, bad-hat (fjm).

This is in regards to your questions about the MS series and CX-12 harps , made by Hohner.

I also collect harmonica media, such as product catalogs. I don't have every catalog, so the following information's value is limited.

I don't have the catalog or pamphlet announcing the starting year of the MS Series, but in my 1996 pamphlet (Hohner tri-fold), there were no MS series harps listed.
In the same pamphlet, the CX-12 (introduced 1992) was listed, in 5 cover colors (my terminology): black, gold-plated over plastic, maroon sparkle, white sparkle, smoky silver.

In the 1997 Hohner tri-fold (Annie Raines cover page), there were 8 MS models listed. The CX-12 was available in the 5 above listed cover colors.

In the 1998 tri-fold (John Popper cover), there were 9 MS models listed. Only the CX-12 in black or gold were listed.

In the 2002 trifold (Hohner Puck on the cover page ), 9 MS series harps were listed. Only CX-12 in black or gold.

Best Regards

John Broecker

HI Guys,

I can also recommend Audacity. It works well.

Hey everyone;
What do you recommend if you want to take an existing mp3 file (or any other
sound file) and edit it so that the music/sound fades out at the end (and save
the file)? Is there anything simple to use that's on line or free maybe? Would
Audacity work? What's better for this purpose and can I download it?
Thank you,
Jeff

Audacity will do fades, and you can save the file with whatever effects you
apply (such as fades). It's rich in features, pretty amazing for a free program.

One thing that's true of Audacity and every other audio editor is that
if you start with an mp3 file you'll have to convert it to wav
(uncompressed) in order to work on it and then convert the finished
product to mp3. There's an unavoidable loss of quality.

Audacity is a great piece of software, one of the best open source
programs around.

Nice review of Howard Levy's gig at the Green Mill over the weekend (
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-07-07/entertainment/ct-ent-0709-h oward-levy-20120708_1_harmonica-acoustic-express-chris-siebold).
Jazz critic Howard Reich has been championing Howard's playing for years
and it's always interesting to see which tunes are in Howard's set list
these days.
I suspect that someone has already mentioned this, but I was watching a
rerun of "Pawn Stars" a few minutes ago and a guy actually brought an old
harmonica into the pawnshop to sell. The harp had a zeppelin airship
raised out of the coverlids and the owner wanted to trade it for a Rolex
watch. He left with $200 and a counterfeit Timex thrown in for
laughs. Wonder who got the better deal?

A counterfeit Timex? Isn't that like the bar tender who learned how to 'cut'
water?

Hi to all!

Finally I tired of dragging all over the place amp and pedalboard,
bunch of power supplys and wires (especially I hate loose power wires
for pedals) and I finally make a decision and bought Line6 POD HD.
Actually I completely emulated my pedalboard and find a decent tones!

Just to show you possibilities here's hard amped tone. Shure SM57 +
POD HD. No reverbs, no post processing.

UPD and some experimental samples. Nothing musical here, just showoff.
Auto-Q, clean jazzy tone, clean jazzy tone + tap tempo delay, clean
jazzy tone + octave down, whammy, hammond0organ emulation.

What I have are long recordings from Sugarmegs.org. They are all in WMA
format, I've split some into tracks by copying to a CD, then ripping as WAV
and editing into tracks in a program called Polderbits. Audacity will not
recognize the WMA files, so I have to convert them. I have a 2 hour program
that is too long to burn to CD, and I'm open to suggestions...

I'd say THIS clip is pretty definitive. SO glad I found it through the
previous link....

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ctljIaPLSc0_ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ctljIaPLSc0) #!

According to some of the comments it's from the Flip Wilson show from 1972.

Finally proves once and for all what I've always contended: that it was a
harmonica on the original (what IS that he's holding in this clip, a
Goliath?) and a melodica only afterwards. The harmonica on the original is
unmistakable to my ears.

Elizabeth PS: anyone else see what I see in the 'harp-synching'?

PPS: A man named Darren Cubie is commenting on every single ChiLites
YouTube song about Marshall Johnson being a 'crook' who ripped off Creadel Jones

and his son (himself) and the other children of the ChiLites for 'tens of
Millions'. It's quite intriguing and ties in with the whole
royalty/copyright issue. Since Johnson is supposed to now be a partner of
Michael Jackson's
father, I'd be interested in the real story.
