RE: [Harp-L] 3draw bend / overblow

Bill (and all newbies)

A simple major scale on the low end of the harp will help hit those important low bent notes on the harp. This being the 2 draw "double-whole step" bend and 3 draw "double-whole step" bend.

Scale: 1b, 1d, 2b, 2d**, 2d, 3d**, 3d, 4b
b-blow,
d-draw,
d*-draw bend 1/2 step,
d**-draw bend 1 step
d*** -draw bend 1 1/2 steps (on hole 3)

With practice playing this scale, it will help bending. There may be other ideas for scales that will help. Remember to work on the 1/2 step bends too on this 2 and 3 hole. Also remember that hole 3 can bend 1 1/2 steps and have an ear to listen for the notes.

Hope this helps too.
Jeff

Unless I'm mistaken, to get overblows too, don't you have to do something to the reeds themselves - like wind savers or something to the reeds - (excuse my ignorance if this is not the correct term)? Can someone explain this.

Can overblows be done with a new/or unmodified harp out of the box?

As far as 2d and 3d bends, this will come in time. Videos, books, backing tracks, Skype lessons, seminars, training, and simply taking the harmonica everywhere you go will help.

Regards,
Jeff

Hey Bill,

It takes awhile to master 2 & 3 hole bends so don't get too frustrated and the Overblows will come once your getting good clean single notes and solid bending facility.

I'm doing a Harp Clinic in Philly on Sat Feb 11th From 3-6pm

Details are on my Website:
