[Harp-L] Grappelli and Django and Kovacs

so where are those rich patrons of The Art these days?

happy birthday to Django...and, as it turns out , to Ernie Kovacs

that's probably not Grappelli playing in the background....

but a classic nonetheless

coincidentally, Ernie and Django both appear to have died at age 43

an age that I'm trying to remember....

unsuccessfully....

Actually, Grappelli used to *teach* chromatic harmonica even though he didn't play it. This was when he was scuffling early on and needed to dough, and he had a very rich student (from the family that owned the Citroen car company, if memory serves). He admitted that this was a bit naughty and only mentioned in the context of another story about how he was always trying to hook Django and their group up with powerful, rich folks, something of which Django was blissfully oblivious. (Today is Django's 102nd birthday.)

Completely tangential to David's new CD. I have my copy and am looking forward eagerly to the opportunity to give it a listen . . .
