As I understand it, "Big Walter" ...Shaky Walter Horton, used solo tuned
harps, a LOT...
Some years ago I declared, (probably in error), that he was using chroms
to play "third position" blues. It sure SOUNDED like that to me at the time!
However, it seems (mostly), that he was not. He simply liked to use solo
tuned harmonicas, without "a button on the end". And sounded just great.

When I sat in with Chet Cannon and the Committee in San Diego last year, Chet
used a solo-tuned diatonic on a few tunes, and it sounded very much like a
chromatic--a great sound, with easier bending, at something like 1/5 the
price of a low-end chromatic. I regret that I don't remember what make and
model he was using.
