Great point Mike. To think, this all started with a simple question.
Now to keep it real, I always think back to the "dead Harp Blues guys" that
we all dig and emulate. They had little to work with whether it was a
harmonica (mostly Hohner Marine Band), a mic they obtained from a warehouse
PA system or from some dispatcher's office, and an amp made from old Bell
and Howell movie projectors. Their equipment worked for them and gave
us,today's musicians, great standards to achieve.
Having had the opportunity to talk with old time Blues players Little Sammy
Davis (harp player) and Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf's guitarist), they were
into playing with what they had, what was available and what was affordable
at the time for them. As the monies increased, so did the cost of equipment.
With all that said, I will admit that I have been enjoying this particular
thread and small amps for Harp players. i love the info about modifications
having been through that myself with my Fender Pro Junior to get real good
tone, but please, let's not mock or put down someone else's opinion,
methods or equipment. As I stated in my first response to this thread, "is
it about price?"
On a brighter note.....I'm enjoying this Harp-L Digest.
Bob
