Re: [Harp-L] Is it all Howard Levy's fault?
I have to agree. Lady Bird is a complex song with a lot of changes.
It's a song I have spent some time listening to and playing on
diatonic. While I think that much of the structure and many of these
changes in the song were aptly represented by Sam I winced at notes
that were not in tune. Yes, it was played amazingly quickly and often
in time with the backing, but at the expense of the music. Simpler can
often be more on the mark, than flashing a series of notes. I
certainly don't pretend to play this song as well as Sam played it,
but at the same time I don't think it was ready for prime time.

You'll find more guitarists trying to be Hendrix than Levy. If my

Sam did
a great job at SPAH but that doesn't mean I'd buy more harmonicas
[from
him] just based on this video. To my ears it is not a product that
inspires- maybe he'd sound better with a band where he'd have a
chance to
phrase things out, listen to others and do the appropriate fills.
I'd go
for Carlos del Junco, any day.
