Re: [Harp-L] Cherry pink

I figured out what happened when I was typing my first reply. Allowing for the fact that I was answering the question: "What did Jerry do"? And I answered that he WAS a tongue blocker, I realize that while Jerry played the tune in F on a C chromo....I actually play it in G on a .... Bb.... chromo. The sound still comes out in F. But I do what I do because: 1... The lead in has a blow note and then three draw notes..with a long hold suck on the THIRD draw. Whereas 'I' have a draw, then a blow, then TWO draw notes, with the hold on the SECOND draw. Also worth mentioning, my Herings don't choke out and I can get the bend.

And while I usually play in draw keys (such as F), here's a case where I favor G instead. Not to mention that a lot of my music is written for clarinet. So I was putting MY method in..whereas it wasn't the way Jerry would do it. But then, as you recall, Jerry had a rather decent sized nose and it was useable. My nose is small and doesn't funnel air as well. After numerous draw notes, my nostrils start to burn.

Cherry Pink was one of the first tunes I learned. It made it's debut in the movie 'Underwater' starring Jayne Russell, Gilbert Roland, and Richard Egan. It came out in late 55 and I started playing chromo early 56. I liked the movie because I was starting to dive at the time..it was a sunken treasure movie, and I saw it at the Nato base theater in Naples It. lolol (I originally played it in F)

>> Excuse me my friend... Yes, Jerry Murad played Cherry Pink on a C Chromatic. However he did not play it in the key of G, instead he played it in the key of F. As you said, he played the juicy draw C (hole 4 draw, button in).
>>
>> And one more thing.... I believe that Jerry played Cherry Pink only on one chromatic.... the one that had the 4 blow wind saver removed. Why you ask? Answer: So that the draw C would bend easier and further. Leaving the wind saver on, it stops the bend and causes the reed to choke.
