RE: [Harp-L] Overbow Buzz

I don't hear any buzz.
I can overbend the 4 blow on a C harp from Eb to G.
F# & G are awful, but the main reason is that I don't practice these notes
at all. With a bit of work I'm sure they could be stabilized.
Anyway, even when the note is awful I don't have any buzz.

It may come from the cover, as you say. When you overbend, the draw reed is
the one which is the most active, and it is the one which is the nearest
from the cover.
If this is the case, I suppose you have a buzz on the first reeds, but not
on the 6 (the reed being shorter).
I would suggest to try without the covers to see if you get the same buzz or
not.

Hope that helps,

Objet : [Harp-L] Overbow Buzz

I've been playing overblows for several years now. I emboss the slots and
gap the reeds to make the overblows easy to play and I can pop the 4,5,6 in
and out with ease. My question is about bending the overblow.

I'm curious to know what it happening when I play an overblow and bend the
note, it will occasionally buzz (not squeel) when I push the bend too far.
I am under the impression that the reed is actually hitting the plate which
causes this buzz, the same as when the 1 draw bend is hit too hard.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong and what is a good remedy besides not
bending so much.
