My 2 cents....

A simple rule. If you're trying to play a fast legato run, favor a button press over a switch in breath direction, depending on the particular phrase you're playing. With practice, the button is much easier to deal with than a breath change. 

In my playing, this generally translates to mostly draw C's and blow F's, but there are of course exceptions.
