...aside from his obviously taking umbrage at your very mild suggestion in  
re discussing volume, he leaps from your attempt to discuss your previous 
outing  with them re getting lost in the mix to any turn down then being the 
equivalent  of 'lounge level'. Wha??
 
 

...then makes a pointed slap in his last 'thought you had great potential'. 
 
 

That was a direct put-down and a dismissal.
 
 

You don't want to play with them..he'd likely turn UP the volume at the  
first gig just to show you who's boss. There's an enormous ego at the other 
end  of those email interchanges. Jmho, of course.
