Good point, Grant.

I totally agree that the cx12 is easier on the mouth then most metal harmonicas, but based on my experience (regardless of the model) you need to toughen up your lips, just like guitar players need to develop calluses on our fingers. In both cases if you don't play often and then try to play for several hours, it's going to be problematic. 

Others have brought up nickel allergies, funky mouthpieces and such, and I don't doubt that those are serious issues. However, in my case, all I needed to do was play regularly and all my soreness problems went away.
