Re: [Harp-L] tinnitus

I have had tinnitus for years. It's not fun. Sometimes it is very bad. Other times, not so bad. The key is just learning how to ignore it. I have found it's worse with high blood pressure. Interesting thing, though. When I am around loud music, it's better for a day or so, then it gets worse again. I normally use ear protection when I am around loud music, however. From what I understand, it can be hereditary to some extent, but is often caused by noise. I was around some loud noise in the miltary and musically in my 40s and 50s. Good luck to anyone who is dealing with it, because it can be extremely hard to handle.

haven't been following this, but shall throw-in anyway. Tinnitus is nerve
damage that is not known to be reparable. Drops, pills, ear-candling, diet,
etc. won't fix it or moderate it. Anything that jacks your blood pressure
will intensify the noise in the ears, but doesn't seem to be a permanent
escalation - it subsides with normalization of the BP. What I haven't
learned is if diabetes contributes in anyway to that kind of nerve damage,
but I don't think so.

T'would be nice to hear that stem-cell researches have put replacing those
nerve cells on their todo list even it is WAY down on the list!

I promised a harp playing friend that I'd ask if there is anything that
can help him with his tinnitus (ringing, chirping in his ears). Either it
was on this list or on another music list a while back that someone once
told of some kind of substance or dietary supplement that said to have
helped. What's the latest on this scourge? tia.
