Yeah. But there's another aspect to this. Some players are a known
quantity with the ability to hold things together in an
improvisational setting even when playing with musicians who may not
be able to keep things together very effectively on their own. Such
players are inevitably going to get called up and given more stage time.
that may be the theory, or the excuse. but in my experience it's
usually just somebody's buddies.
