Re: [Harp-L] Is Live Blues Dying Out?

The blues will never die, live or otherwise. Times being what they are,
there are fewer venues supporting live music of any kind. Here in Chicago
there are all kinds of bars closing up shop due to the economics of it all,
whether they have live music or not. More folks are drinking their beer at
home in front of the TV. But here in the big city blues scene, the mainstay
clubs are still thriving and doing their thing on a nightly basis. They're
still being patronized by locals and tourists alike. The smaller clubs and
neighborhood bars that feature live blues, just like the middle class
patrons that support them, are struggling but far from dead. Some
will survive some won't -- that's the nature of the economic beast. Live
blues and live music in general are feeling the pinch just like every other
form of entertainment that's pitched in taverns, bars and clubs. Comedy
clubs are hurting too. This is an economic cycle that seems to be scraping
bottom at present. Live blues is a lagging indicator.
