Re: [Harp-L] Not Stuck, But Balky
Well, it wasn't as easy a victory as replacing the wind savers. There
was a vexing plot twist involving the cover plates having become
dislodged from the reed plate slots and not wanting to go back in, my
husband padding into the room at an hour very uncharacteristic for
him, me asking, "What are you doing up?" him saying, "I heard some
strange noises," and me replying cheerfully, "Oh, that was me, cussing."
I would have tried a toothbrush and dish detergent on my own
recognizance, but steel wool! Now, we're talking muscle. Better
living through materials science.
All's well that ends well: The mouthpiece and slide assemblies of
both harmonicas are clean as whistles, the harps are reassembled (with
an assist from said husband), and they play very nicely, so far.
We'll see how they do after a long practice session. Thank you all,
especially Joe, for the encouragement and advice.
