[Harp-L] Magnification Device

One year at the Willie Clancy School Rick Epping introduced me to a dinky
low tech way of examining harmonica reeds.

This was to use a microfiche reader - an obsolete device for reading
microfilm files, which can probably be picked up for twenty bucks or less at
a garage sale nowadays.

You simply place the reed plate instead of a strip of microfiche on the
screen of the reader and get an instant view of the clearance around the
reeds before and after swaging the reed plate to reduce the gap.

When it came to doing some actual maintenance on a student?s harmonica, Rick
simply borrowed my dime store reading glasses which he placed over his own.

You can?t whack watching and learning from an expert!
