[Harp-L] comb design
I haven't been able to follow this entire thread due to time constraints, but one point i would like to make about comb design is that I very much like when the tines bulge out in the front. To me it offers maximum comfort on the tongue. I don't know if he still does, but my favorite customizer, Joe Spiers, used to offer a maple comb option. Joe would shape them so that the end of each tine protruded a bit in the front. The bulges were rounded off and the wood was sealed and nicely finished. The closest I've seen to this design is the Seydel 1847's beautiful maple comb, tho the 1847's tines don't protrude as much as Joe's maple combs; therefore, to me they aren't quite as comfortable as Joe's. I am spoiled and will never be 100% satisfied with any comb that does not protrude in this manner because to me, the feel on the tongue is so far superior. Your mileage may vary, especially if u don't tongue block.
Does anyone know if any of the composite combs that are made by some of our list-members incorporate this protruding frontal tine design, or are they missing this opportunity to make the ultimate comfortable comb?
