Hmmm. Not many, I wouldn't think.
Steve Baker's take on this is on the money. Being able to pick the
chords on the fly - I, IV, V, II, VI etc, then knowing the notes to go
with them is a fundamental skill. This mini analysis happens at the
start of a song, where you're better off listening than playing.
Two other aspects worth mentioning.
- Familiarity with the style you're playing/sitting in with, Chicago
Blues, Jug Band, Bluegrass, Country. Or whatever. Not strictly theory,
but it makes a big difference.
- Knowing the rhythms - shuffle, swing, two beat, rock and roll etc.
Again, not strictly theory, but crucial knowledge not covered in most
harmonica teaching methods.
