@Boris: i also use 5th position for playing "Little Wing." it lays
out very well.
@David Michelsen Tuition: I also use 5th position to play "St. James
Infirmary." I agree that there is a significant degree of
commonality between 5th and 2d positions. The breath pattern for the
minor pentatonic scale in 5th position is the as the breath patter
for the major pentatonic scale in 2d position, it just starts on a
different note for root or "do." Btw, going back to the original
topic, there is also a commonality between 1st and 4th positions:
The breath pattern for the major pentatonic scale in 1st position is
the same as the breath pattern for the minor pentatonic scale in 4th
position.
