A sampling of the region'sfinest blues and boogie woogie keyboardists join Gulf Coastboogie-woogie Queen, Marcia Ball, in a benefit concert at the AladdinTheater, on Sunday, April 17th.  All proceeds from "RememberMe" 2011 will go towards the scholarship that has been establishedin memory of Portland's late harmonica maestro, Paul deLay, at EthosMusic Center, a nonprofit dedicated to music education for youth inunderserved communities.  A committee of members from thePortland music community has again organized this annual benefit formusic education.  Last year's event filled the Aladdin Theaterand increased the growing scholarship fund by more than five thousanddollars; those funds are supporting scholarships for music educationthis year at Ethos, Inc.

Headlining this year'scelebration is four-time Grammy nominee pianist and blues woman,Marcia Ball. Winner of eight Blues Music Awards for Piano Playerof the Year, and Female Blues Artist of the Year, Singer/pianistMarcia Ball knows how to raise roofs and tear down walls with herinfectious, intelligent and deeply emotional brand of southern boogie,rollicking, roadhouse blues and heartfelt ballads. Over the course ofher three-decade career, Ball has earned a huge and intensely loyalfollowing all over the world. Her exquisite piano playing andpassionate, playful vocals fuse New Orleans and Gulf Coast R&Bwith Austin's deep songwriting tradition into a sound NoDepression described as "a little rock, a lot of roll, apinch of rhythm and a handful of blues." The concert also featuresNorthwest Pianorama, a stellar lineup of the region's blueskeyboard talent, including D.K. Stewart (formerly of RobertCray, Paul deLay and Curtis Salgado bands), Alabama-born boogie-woogieveteran David Vest (formerly of Paul deLay Band), Louisianatransplant Steve Kerin, Portland's  gospel/bluespianist Janice Scroggins, and the young keyboard phenom, MacPotts. They will be joined by former members of the Paul deLayBand: drummer Jimi Bott; bassist Dave Kahl;guitarists Peter Dammann and Lloyd Jones; and otherspecial guests to be announced.  Pianorama Northwest will featurethe pianists in solo, duo and trio combinations, and are likely tojoin Marcia Ball in a boogie-woogie finale.

Tickets for this event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door;those who act quickly can get the 'early bird discount' at $15 (whichexpires March 15) from Ethos Music Center, or at the March CascadeBlues Association meeting (7 pm, Wed. ABOUT PAULDELAY
Paul deLay wrote thehaunting lament "Remember Me," after his mother and the mothers ofthree band members passed away in a two-year period in the late1990s.  It was released on the Paul deLay Band's HeavyRotation CD (Evidence Music) in 2001. Paul deLay passed away onMarch 7, 2007 from complications of late-stageleukemia.
