Two bits of info to add to the star mystery:
The curator of the Deutsches Harmonika Museum once told me that the star was
not removed from all the covers until the 1960s, so as not to offend the
Arab market.
In 1965, while in Germany, I purchased a new Chromonika III that had the
star on the cover. It came in the brown, alligator patterned vinyl case
rather than the red box used in the 1950s, so it was not likely to have been
old store stock.
