[Harp-L] harping while driving

I totally understand the seductiveness of our instrument and how
convenient its portability makes it for playing while driving. As a person
who used to drive for a living, I've seen more than a few musicians sneaking
in practice time on their instruments. I once saw a guy at a stop light
playing along with a heavy metal song with his drum sticks on the
car dashboard. He had literally pounded the stuffing out of it, so this
must have been a regular routine. Another time I saw a woman with her right
hand on the steering wheel and her left hand sticking out the window holding
a pair of maracas. She had a tune with a Latin beat cranked up on her radio
and she was shouting and whooping while keeping time with these things.
But nothing beats a harmonica portability-wise for playing while
driving. I get that. All I can say is; there is no more stupid feeling in
the world than sitting in an intersection after being walloped by another
car, watching people exit their vehicles to see if you're ok and/or to yell
at you. And thoughts like "how could I be this ignorant" and "I'd better
hide this harmonica" are racing through your brain. Believe me, you don't
want to have that experience.
