Because, probably 80 percent of the moisture gets soaked into the very top of 
the comb teeth. But it will still get a little moisture in and will swell a 
little, it just won't swell out. The combs aren't very flat, so that little 
swelling helps. Even I would recommend only sealing the edges, UNLESS you 
flatsand the comb. You're best off flatsanding and sealing the whole thing.

I'm about to try to seal a couple old MB combs that I have and have a question 
to you customizers out there. What is the reasoning that I hear to only seal the 
edges and not the entire comb? Or is this sort of like the plastic vs. wood 
argument?
