Re: [Harp-L] A Music Lesson to PONDER
Robert asks of the Victor Wooten interview:
>> Help me out. What do you think he is saying?
I think the crux of Victor's message came at the very end where he says:
"People don't want to hear theory when they hear music.
They want to hear your soul.
They don't want to hear theory. They don't want to hear technique.
They don't even want to hear your instrument.
They want to hear you. You just happen to be expressing yourself through an
instrument."
Theory and technique are the tools, not the point of making music. You need them
before you can play at a level where expressing yourself through your instrument
becomes natural and effortless. But the expression of your inner self is what
its ultimately all about.
I love it. I totally identify with this kind of approach. Theory, technique,
self expression.
