Has anyone tried the Seydel Session Steel harmonicas? If so, opinions?
i picked one up recently, in G. very nice harp. i already have a couple
of the blues session harps, and like them, so the main difference is the
stainless steel reeds. they cost about twice what the regular session
costs, so if the reeds last more than twice as long it's a win. plus you
can get reedplates for it for about the cost of a regular one
(hmmmm...maybe i should do that next time a regular one dies).
like the regular, this one feels good in the hand, very solid, more
like an instrument than a toy. may not be quite as responsive as
my normal suzuki bluesmasters, but i'm gonna tweak a little and
see how that goes. comes with a spiffy little leather pouch, though
keeping it in there makes the harp taste funny.
i told myself beforehand that i didn't care about the comb color.
but now that i have it, i actually like it. go figure. get a good
tight cup on the thing and you'll never see it anyway.
it does make the notes sound a little orangey to my ear. we
should probably do a double blind test at SPAH this year
to determine the effect of comb color on harp tone.
warren, get on that.
