The opinion of the team seems to be going towards BIAB, Sonar etc. I
haven't read all the posts but I would like to suggest 'Noteworthy
Composer'.
Pro : Cheap and easy to use. Produces extremely small files. Takes in MIDI
real time and as a file. Free viewer and player.
Con : A bit clunky to use. Limited facilities (but Hey - it's cheap). (Yes I
KNOW Free is better !)
My Harmonica teacher and I use it to bounce arrangements between us.
I don't know of any software that ticks all the boxes for Doug but
Noteworthy does the first three and no. 4 ought to be available as a
freeware 'PDF' printer.
For no 5. I use Finale. No. 6 sounds like a dream ticket (never pay for
sheet music again), but I would be interested if anyone has any success with
products like Widisoft.
As for no.7 - I ain't there yet.
Cheers M'dears...

1. Create simple (or complex) arrangements as midi files.
2. Be able to import existing files and modify them.
3. I have some piano arrangements that I'd like to enter into an editor
via a midi keyboard so I could hear it. ( I can read well enough to play
the notes to play the arrangements in 'real time'.)
4. Create PDF docs of arrangements, with good control over font size,
layout etc. Include lyrics.
Those would be the main things I'd want to do but maybe it could do more,
such as:
5. Recognize scanned sheet music and create a midi file.
6. Recognize recorded music and create midi file.
7. Allow me to record myself playing against midi backing and create
audio file.
