I've owned Cakewalk since Pro Audio 9, over a decade ago, and I've used the various versions of their digital audio workstation Sonar to produce almost all my recordings since then. I thnk it's a great program. But I do think that the requirements specified by the OP will be better served by Band in a Box. Certainly it's easier to throw an arrangement together quickly from pre-existing styles in BIAB.
Winslow Yerxa uses both programs, as I recall, and he may have an opinion too.
