Re: [Harp-L] When do get started with amplification?
"How far were you in your harmonica adventure before your harmonica
sound was devirginized with amplification? "
You'll get all kinds of answers, from the purists who say "don't go
there until you have your acoustic tone/technique down" to people like
me who say "sure, have a little fun but don't forget that the acoustic
tone is most important first". So do a little research, play through
others' gear at jams etc when you get the chance (or at SPAH or Garden
State festivals, which are coming soon, you will have endless
opportunities to do that an make a well-informed purchase!) and go for
it, if you have the bread. Never hurts to just kick back and have a
little fun to reward yourself for all that hard practice at scales and
other challenging stuff.
As far as what techniques - those bends and chords sure sound good
through an amplified system if you're looking for that chicago bluesy sound.
