"I don't understand what is meant by "tubed down." Using 6V6's
instead of 6L6's ??"
By "tubed down" I mean lower gain preamp tubes in certain positions
and an unbalanced preamp tube in the phase inverter position. I did
NOT change the configuration of the power tubes.
"Harp-only, Daisy chain the two channels."
The problem with doing this on a Fender amp that HAS REVERB is that
the reverb channel and the dry channel are OUT OF PHASE with one
another. This is because the reverb channel has one more preamp
stage than the dry channel does. If the amp has no reverb, there's
no problem slaving or "daisy chaining" channels, but doing this on a
Fender amp WITH reverb can be problematic.
Just for the hell of it, I tried a Radial Tonebone BigShot A-B-Y box
which has the ability to invert the phase on one of its outputs and
tried going into both channels of my SRRI through that. I did NOT
like the sound I got at all. But, YMMV.
You know, I absolutely love the depth and dimension of tone you can
get from a spring reverb tank in a tube amp. BUT if you go into the
dry channel of a blackface or RI Super Reverb you can get an
instantly recognizable Butterfield type sound which ain't a bad thing
either. I really like my Super RI Reissue for big amp applications.
