The vast majority of D tunes also work on a standard-tuned (non-Paddy) D harp.  A low D harp puts you at the same pitch as Brendan on this video but you would, of course, be playing mostly in the middle octave. Brendan's video does make a persuasive case for a rethink. Discuss...  ;-)
