Re: [Harp-L] Diatonic/chromatic

Let me preface my comments by saying that I do not play the diatonic and I
have only been playing the chromatic (augmented-tuning) for one year. So
here is my two cents on this thread. Diatonics can bend notes deeper and
with more ease than the chromatic harmonica. What a wonderful effect, the
bend. Really wonderful! But the diatonic has big limitations with respect
to chromaticity. So until we get a chromatic harp that can bend like a
diatonic the dilema will persist - Do you want easy access to that really
really cool sound or do you want all 12 pitches in western music?

I made my choice in favor of the chromatic harmonica because I think
musically in terms of pitch rather effects. I can understand why others
might choose differently. Depending upon your musical goals the choice
could be rather difficult. And one should consider that one's musical
goals are very likely to change with time and experience. Your choice.
