I have one and even though I'm just learning to p[lay, it seems to be the harp I grab as it just feels right. As I look at it, I wonder if you could put MB reed plates in it. Looking side by side, they look almost identical.
Anyways,
Thanks for the replies.

I've had acouple Hering 1923's. I like the way they play and sound. Pretty
responsive for the price range, and raw and rootsy in timbre and tone. I
too had issues with the self-loosening screws.
I sucked out the 5 Draw reed (literally!) on one them pretty quick, when I
either didn't remember that sucker won't bend more than a 1/4 tone, or
thought I was on the 4...the other one I still have, after pulling it out of
the dead harps shoebox and messing with the reeds a bit. For some reason, the
screws have held tight since then.( I may have cranked 'em down pretty
hard). I'd buy another, I think. I love the sealed comb, and dig the finish on
the covers too.

I have a couple of them. I don't play them much but do like them.
I seem to remember that they are tuned differently than Special 20s &
Marine
Bands. I believe the tuning used on the 1923 Vintage harps is called "Just"
tuning and that it is how harps were tuned in the olden days. That said, I
am the last guy on this list who should be talking about tuning so anyone
out there who has the dope on this please chime in.
I will tell you that the nuts on the screws holding down the coverplates on
mine kept coming loose. I solved the problem by buying a cheap little
bottle
of TEMPORARY Loctite glue. A tiny little drop keeps the nuts in place. It's
also really good for keeping those little screws holding the grills on
bullet mics in place as well. Make sure to get the TEMPORARY version so you
can take the covers/screws off later.
