Re: [Harp-L] Help with Tuning

Richard Sleigh, one of the top harmonica customizers, makes a set of tuning
tools that allow you to do some tuning without removing a blow reedplate. These
include:

- A scraper that can be inserted into the hole to remove small amounts of metal
from the base of a blow reed to lower pitch

- a poker and a stylus, both of which can be used to nudge a blow reed getnly up
through the slot

- a "platform" tool that can be inserted under the tip of a reed as a support
for tuning, including a blow reed that has been flexed through the slot.

The tool kit also comes with a comprehensive guide to tuning reeds.

Subject: [Harp-L] Help with Tuning

Here's my problem. I'm blind and can't do work on my harps, but have trained my
wife to do simple tuning with file. Our problem: we just can't get those blow
reeds up out of the slot, in order to tune them. Don't want to bend or break
them. Is there something simple to use? Somebody mentioned part of a CD case,
but I haven't got a clue what that is.

Thanks for any suggestions.
