I wish someone would've unplugged Hound Dog's guitar.
Steve comments:
I think it's safe to say that Hound Dog and Walter were not the best
of buddies and were only playing together because they had to. Horst
Lippman, who put those American Folk Blues Festival tours together,
was forced by economic necessity to keep the number of musicians as
low as reasonably possible, so the stars generally shared rhythm
sections.
This great video was briefly posted on Youtube a year or so back and
then swiftly deleted, there was quite a lot of correspondence on Harp-
L about it then if I remember correctly. It's a credit to Walter's
huge talent that he rolls with the punches and manages to play some
beautiful and creative stuff which amply demonstrates that he wasn't
in any way over the hill at this late point in his career. And we
finally get some decent footage of the man in action! It's available
on DVD, so why not buy it?
