It's a good thing this guy is your former guitarist.

Rehearsal is the one thing that keeps all your blues tunes from sounding the same... Endings, starts, stops, breaks, etc are all essential to crafting a quality product and rehearsal is the only way to get everything honed to a quasi-professional level.    Otherwise your gigs will sound like an open blues jam.

Also, through rehearsal you can figure out what to play on each solo / jam so that you don't spend the whole gig repeating yourself.  If every gig is nothing but impromptu jams, harpists and guitarists alike will tend to let everything out on every solo.  By rehearsing, you can ensure that you have something fresh to say musically with each song.
