Same things would apply to cover plate materials: Anyone ever try

I have used 1/16" (1.5mm) felt or foam inside Hering 64 covers. It
helps tame the 'bite' that Herings are notorious for. They then sound
close to a Hohner 64. I have also used duct tape, surgical tape,
blotter paper, tin foil, naugahyde, rubber (from a hot water bottle),
hypalon, flannel, and on and on. They all had an effect more or less.
Most weren't worth the trouble. I currently use the foam only on my
Herings.
