Re: [Harp-L] Turbo Slide Harmonica

If you pull out a magnet and some things made of stainless, you will quickly find that most are not attracted to the magnet, or their attraction is very slight. I did this experiment when a friend had the huge dissappointment of not being able to 'install' his treasured collection of fridge magnets on his new stainless steel fridge. At that time we pulled out everything we could find that was stainless and gave it a try.

It is my understanding that in stainless alloys the iron interacts with the other components such that its magnetic properties are cancelled out. (I have been wrong before but it was a long time ago, early yesterday I think . .. )

In the information on the turboslide website there was mention that only the Seydel reeds are of a particular type of stainless that allows this to work. There was a five-dollar word involved.

Steel (stainless or otherwise) contains iron and is thus subject to magnetic forces.
