Playing with a recording is easy, be  it a studio take or a live one, if 
you have all the harps available. Just by listening you will know if you 
are in the right key. But of  course, if a player is lazy, he/she wants 
somebody to tell the key.

but in the vast number of cases, the person is asking what key the 
studio version is in, so that they can play along and learn it. I think
