I can't speak for anyone else Todd, but I first take a small block of wood. Then I make a punch by taking a finishing nail and filing the tip blunt. To about a 1/16" (1.5mm) diameter ball tip. I place a windsaver on the block and using the small punch I had made and a very light hammer, I put a dimple near the river end of the wind saver (on the bottom side) in the same location as the old wind saver's dimple.

THIS will give you clearance so that the wind saver will lie flat while the dimple clears the rivet's base. Yes, even though the rivet only protrudes a tiny amount from the reed plate, the 'swaging' of the brass as the rivet was set, will cause a small hump. You definitely want to clear this hump.

For glue I have always used very thick nail polish. This is because I have always lived in a house full of women. Who toss out old thickened nail polish. I would take it and let it thicken even MORE. It is pretty much the same thing as model airplane 'dope' that we used to use to paint the wings.

In YOUR case, I would forego that and merely use one of a number adhesives. Such as of Duco-cement, Plio-Bond contact adhesive, or Gel type super glue. Certain plastic model cements also work. The main thing is to not let the glue 'flu-flu' for you. That's when it gives off these spider web strands. And don't use liquid super glue. It can run into the slots pretty quickly.

With any cement, I would apply it in a tiny drop farther away from the reed slot than you want to finally wind up. Then 'walk' the windsaver into position. What you will be doing is pressing the wind saver down and then 'drawing' it towards the free swinging reed end. This way. you are less apt to drag glue into the reed slot.
