I attended 1 SPAH, maybe 4 Buckeye and last years GSHF.
What I do know out of knowing nothing is this. The dates. That was
posted on harpl weeks ago.
I know the costs. It was posted on harpl and I believe the website. I
might have read it on Danny's gig list here.
I know there will be an after hours blues and jazz jam. That's been
posted on harpl by past attendees.
I know there is ALWAYS a Sat. night banquet with big headliners. There
is always jamming in the halls and lessons taking place
in the hallways.
There is an electric blues jam saturday afternoon. IF you sleep
overnight or arrive early there is bound to be seminars
throughout the day for you to attend. There are always vendors. There
are always new and old friends to hookup with.
I know Sonny Jr. will be there so I emailed him to find out the date.
Saturday.
I know Steve Guyger so I'll either email or phone him to see what
night he can make it.
I know Hendrik Meurkens so I can email or phone him to find out his
date.
Most of us can contact the players via their websites if it's a player
is motivating your attendance.
It isn't so important for me to find out what goes on every minute of
the day. My attendance this year will be iffy too since I'm out of
work.
So far Saturday is my best bet so I'll take what Saturday has to
offer. If I get called back to work Thursday and Friday are out.
I could end up arriving at the last minute and paying full cost. No
big deal. It's not the first time. I don't expect any festivals
schedule to work around mine.
I never have the luxury of picking my weekdays off to attend
festivals. I could be called back to work then miss out on a possible
Thursday night or Friday events.
If any of you can only make one day make it Saturday. These fests
always end with the most to do on a Saturday. If you want to attend
the entire festival then take
a leap of faith and send them your money not knowing what's on tap. If
nothing else you have a mini vacation with like minded people who
don't look at you weird for blowing your harp
in public places.
Btw, from what I understand most or all of the musicians that play
GSHF play for free so if a paying gig comes up they need to make a
choice. The closer the festival rolls around the better chance of
them holding onto musician commitments to play. At that point
performance times can be locked in.
