Dennis, you should be able to retract the outer ring on the adaptor by
pressing it toward the cable end and turning in the reverse direction, this
will let you actually see if there is a connection when you press the adapter
up to the mic and look in from the side.

Another easy way to determine if the contacts between the mic & cable are
the problem is to use a small amount of tinfoil. Just fold or ball some up
so it will obviously create a contact when you mate the cable to the mic,
don't screw it down too tight with the extra stuff in there. If the mic
cuts out completely when you do this then the foil is also touching the
outside/ground part of the connector (won't hurt the mic or amp) & you'll need
to reposition it. If it works ok with the foil in place then you've
probably found the source of the problem. Don't use this a solution when playing,
it's just a diagnostic tool. The extra stuff between the contacts can
overstress the fibre retaining plates, they can bow or crack which will only
compound the issue.

If the problem remains with the foil in place then the issue is elsewhere,
as you said you've used 2 different adapters the issue is most likely
inside of the mic itself.
