[Harp-L] Band-in-a-Box Jam Track Tutorial -- 1 of 3
This is a Tutorial for the second-easiest 12-bar blues jam track using
Band-in-a-Box.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE: If you reply to this post, don't include the
post itself in its entirety. It's long. Thank you.
The very easiest jam track is to type the chords for a 12-bar blues
into the cells of the lower part of the screen (the part that looks
like a spreadsheet) and press "Play".
The second-easiest jam track has a 4-bar introduction ("Take it from
the five, boys!") followed by a standard 12-bar blues in the key of C.
We will select a style and make a minor adjustment to the
instrumentation. We will then transpose it to the key of E, and save
our creation to a file. The purpose of doing these particular things
is to give you a bit of experience changing those things
that *I think* you are most likely to want to know how to change first.
This "jam track" goes on for nearly forever: There are some
difficulties (okay, issues) associated with ending a song, and ending
it gracefully. I'll address that – including questions of my own – in a
later post.
Fire up BIAB.

First we will enter the chords we want.
The first cell in the chord sheet should be highlighted, and probably
shows a 'C' in it. Type G7 (not case-sensitive), then press the tab
key twice or click with the mouse so that the first half of
cell/measure 2 is highlighted.
The default setting is two chords per measure. We will be entering one
chord per measure EXCEPT in measures 4 and 16, where we will enter two
chords:
1. G7 2. F7 3. C7 4. C7 G7
5. C7 6. C7 7. C7 8. C7
9. F7 10. F7 11. C7 12. C7
13. G7 14. F7 15. C7 16. C7 G7

You can press 'Play' at any time to hear your creation so far. Press
'Stop' or the space bar to stop.
