[Harp-L] harmonizing (what would Duane and Dickey do?)

can anyone give me some advice on harmonizing lines with another player?  For instance, if we're playing in D major, say I'm trying to harmonize a line with a mandolin, playing the third (F#), would it be best to play those harmony notes on the D harp in 1st or would it be better to use another position? another harp?
