Garry,
Your bandmates steered you wrong if they told you the song is in
A-minor. The opening chord of the song is indeed an A-minor chord,
but the song is actually in C. (A-minor being the relative minor of
C.)
The guitar chords he's playing are A-minor; F; C; and G. (There's
also an E-minor in the bridge.) All of which explains why your F harp
in second position seems to work for much of it -- but not so well on
the A-minor chord itself, which is leaned on throughout the song.
Seems like one of those songs where you may have to employ some harp
switching. Much of it works with the F, but for certain sections of
it you might try switching to a C-harp in first. And there may be
notes you will want to skip altogether, so my humble advice would be
either to find appropriate harmonies or just play sparsely on this
one. :)
Hope it's helpful,
Tom Ball
i'm having a hard time figuring out how to play this.
i'm told it's in A minor, but it doesn't seem to work for me
on a D harp in 2nd or G in 3rd. the only harp that sounds
right-ish to me is an F, playing like it was 2nd position, but
the band says that doesn't sound right. so i'm kind of at
a loss.
if any of you could have a listen and give me some clue,
i'd appreciate it. bonus points for explaining why whatever
works does so, or why what i've tried does not.
