I saw an article several years ago where they gave harmonicas to emphysema patients and it helped greatly reduce their symptoms. One of the theories besides the breathing in and out was they used there diaphragm to play which helped their breathing.

The temptations of some professional musicians....irregular hours, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc.......might explain shorter average lives.
