[Harp-L] Re:12-hole diatonics
Hello, Rainbow Jimmy.
There are 4 major harmonica companies doing business in the USA that sell
12-hole solo system diatonics (note setup like a standard slide chromatic):
Huang #115 Cadet Soloist; Hering #8024 Master Solo; Hohner #364S Marine
Band Solo Tuning; and Seydel Blues Solist Pro 12 with solo system note
placement.
Of these, only the Hering and Huang models have plastic combs. The Seydel
and Hohner products have wood combs.
Hering, Hohner and Huang are available in the key of C only. Seydel offers
the model in C stock, but you can order any key that fits into their reed
range, at an extra cost.
The Huang model is about 1/2 the price of the other brands. It has a
cardboard case, and it plays as well as the other brands.
Hohner's case is soft vinyl. The Marine Band #364S has a mellow tone.
Hering's case is hard plastic. The Hering's sound is closest to the Lee
Oskar sound of the 4 brand, Huang being second. It's described as bright.
I don't know the case material for the Seydel model, nor it's sound
description.
